Regenerating Country
For the last 50 years, we have been actively revegetating and stabilising the peninsula foredune.
This involves the removal of harmful weeds and using our own native plant nursery to cultivate and reintroduce indigenous species. Looking towards the future, we will continue this vital work as we reimagine the peninsula.
The proposal will also provide opportunities for the community to nurture, learn from, and celebrate Country.
Leveraging the expansive open space of the peninsula, we can regenerate the pre-colonial natural landscape and restore ecological habitats that been threatened since European settlement in the region.
Connecting with Country
To achieve this we have embraced a holistic design approach through Connecting with Country. This approach guides sustainable development, placing Country, cultural values, and community at its core.
This process recognises that the bond with Country transcends cultural differences, underscoring the shared values across Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities.
Celebration and reverence of Country
Central to our vision is the unwavering commitment to raise awareness of Dharawal stories, actively contributing to truth-telling and reconciliation.
Situated at the initial point of contact between Aboriginal communities and Europeans, the Kurnell Peninsula stands as an ideal location to encourage cultural learning and celebration of Australia's important Aboriginal history.
Guided by the Connecting with Country process, our plans incorporate a cultural trail that weaves across the site. This trail will serve as a unique tourism destination for residents and visitors to delve into the richness of Country, immerse themselves in the pre-colonial natural landscape, and importantly, foster opportunities for Aboriginal enterprise on-site.
